Lobster because they move backwards  - could lead to setbacks
Chicken because the bird scratches backwards - causing regret or dwelling on the past
Winged fowl - good luck could fly away

Cooked greens - economic future (especially cabbage and collard greens), black eyed peas - for luck, lentils (thought to resemble little coins) - good fortune, pork - wealth and prosperity, long noodles - to bring long life
In many countries it is good luck to leave a bit of food on your plate until after midnight - symbolizing a "stocked" pantry for the next year and a reminder not to be too greedy

Here is a last minute idea for a Christmas "dessert" - found chocolate covered mint Peeps at the market, attached lollipop sticks and placed them in a clear jar full of Hot Tamales.

These marshmallow lollipops work great on a buffet, as a gift or a party favor. I placed a lollipop stick (found at any craft store) into the marshmallow, dipped it in chocolate and rolled the marshmallow in crushed holiday peanut butter m&ms. You can also roll them in peanuts, crushed mints or sprinkles - whatever you like!

Cute ideas for you and the kids to set out on Christmas Eve, plus they would be great as party favors!

I strongly recommend setting your table the day before your party. Many last minute things can come up the day of and you don't want to to get too stressed so this is a big "check" off your list. Go ahead and set out your serving pieces with post-its of each food item. The next day, simply fill the dish and put it in its correct place on the table.
