Cooked greens - economic future (especially cabbage and collard greens), black eyed peas - for luck, lentils (thought to resemble little coins) - good fortune, pork - wealth and prosperity, long noodles - to bring long life
In many countries it is good luck to leave a bit of food on your plate until after midnight - symbolizing a "stocked" pantry for the next year and a reminder not to be too greedy
